Will insurance help pay?
Ask which medicine is being prescribed and why. A broad answer about “weight-loss care” leaves too much out.
Can I check cagrilintide coverage now?
As of September 28, 2026, cagrilintide and CagriSema, which combines it with another medicine, semaglutide, had no US approval or official price.
Do not treat a general insurance claim as an answer about these products. Ask which approved treatment the plan’s answer actually names.

An insurance logo on a page does not change the drug’s recorded status.
Why does the reason for treatment matter?
Semaglutide is the medicine in Ozempic and Wegovy. As of September 26, 2026, their approved uses differed, which could affect whether Medicare would pay.
Under the September 2026 rules, Medicare may allow payment for your reason for taking a medicine. Your plan must still check its medicine list and agree to pay.
A formulary is that list of medicines. Prior authorization means the plan reviews a request before agreeing to pay.

“Can be covered” does not mean your own plan has agreed to cover the prescription.
What can I ask the plan?
- Does my plan list this exact medicine?
- Is it covered for the condition being treated?
- What records does the approval request need?
- What would I pay for the medicine?
- Are the visit and lab bills handled separately?
- What happens if the request is denied?
Ask for the answer in writing or keep the reference number for the conversation.
