What did the trial really show?

Trials are studies in people. Keep the product and the comparison in view to make sense of the result.

Which result belongs to the combination?

CagriSema combines cagrilintide with another medicine, semaglutide, the ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy.

REDEFINE 1 was a 68-week study in adults without diabetes. People on CagriSema lost an average 20.4% of their body weight.

The comparison shot contained no trial medicine; that group lost 3.0% of body weight.

That average included people who stopped taking the medicine before the study ended.

The trial included health visits and lifestyle support and was funded by the drug’s maker.

An average is not a result promised to you.

Open the source note

The average includes people who stopped treatment. It does not assume everyone took the medicine for all 68 weeks.

What about cagrilintide on its own?

In the same 68-week study, the maker reported average weight loss of 11.5% for cagrilintide alone. That average also included people who stopped taking the medicine.

The study mainly compared CagriSema with a shot containing no study medicine. Fewer people received cagrilintide alone, so its result is less certain.

Use the result for the exact medicine being offered. CagriSema’s weight-loss result does not describe cagrilintide alone.

The 11.5% figure is the maker’s reported result for cagrilintide alone. It is an average from that study, not a promise about your weight.

Which questions were still open?

On September 28, 2026, the trial asking whether CagriSema reduces heart attacks and strokes was still running.

No published result on weight after stopping CagriSema had been found by that date.

Neither cagrilintide nor CagriSema had US approval from FDA, the US drug agency, on September 28, 2026.
